Sustainability Day - the latest Sustainable Projects and Best Practices at Iskra
Wednesday, 30 September 2020
Last week we organized the SustainabilityDay event as part of the official opening ceremony of the Tesla Powerpack energy storage system at our business unit in Kranj, Slovenia
"Despite the global crisis, 2020 has been a great year, as we plan to generate 120 million euros in revenue this year, which exceeds last year's performance," said Klemen Šesok - CRO at Iskra. He stated that we are always ready to share experiences and best practices with industry partners, such as the latest solution using Tesla batteries to reduce electric energy consumption in our buildings. Davorin Dobočnik - Director at Iskra once more highlighted that
Iskra is a renowned manufacturer of electrotechnical components and industrial solutions that has contributed to the sustainable development of the societies in which we operate.
The way in which we are going to use the Tesla energy storage was explained by Mag. Joze Dermol Director of Research, Development and Technology: "With the battery, we generate savings through the reduction of the power peaks when charging and discharging the battery:
- during lower tariffs
- active participation in the daily electricity market
The battery is charged when there is a surplus of electrical energy on the market or during lower daily tariffs. When the price rises, the battery is discharged. This reduces the need for thermal power plants and thus contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy efficiency as a key component for long-term success
As energy is a key competitive factor for all industries when it comes to efficient use of resources, energy costs and other environmental concerns, Manca Vrečar - director of FMS presented the best practices from this department. The continuous optimization of energy consumption is closely linked to appropriate planning, monitoring, analysis and adjustment. She explained that we offer a comprehensive solution for energy management that provides the following benefits:
savings due to energy optimization, centralized view of different measurement points, detection of unexpected and unusual patterns in energy consumption, etc. Denis Ipavec – the head of technology at Iskra shared examples of best practices focusing on the main features and benefits of the Multipoint Metering and Control" concept, which increases efficiency by
intelligently controlling the energy consumption of all systems on a single device.
5G at Iskra
It is expected that 5G as a new communication standard will improve manufacturing by boosting quality and efficiency through fast and secure data transmission. "Iskra has launched the development project for the 5G network in Maribor, Slovenia, which is expected to be completed in 2023," said Peter Goltnik - Director at Iskra. He added that the project has the following objectives:
- Establishment of a traffic control center to monitor and perform predictive traffic analysis using IoT
- Implementation of dynamic traffic regimes on a smart traffic light network
- Smart parking for identification of users of parking places via geo-fences
- Integrated payment for mobility services in the city.
He highlighted that Iskra is already offering solutions and components for the 5G network and invited all industry partners and guests to visit the showroom in our HQ in Ljubljana and see all components including the 5G base station.
